Introducing Occupancy Heatmap: Enhance Your Understanding of Space Utilization

Oct. 26, 2023

Introducing Occupancy Heatmap, designed to empower you with deeper insights into how your spaces are occupied during a specific time frame.

We’re excited to introduce our latest feature, the Occupancy Heatmap, aimed at showcasing the most used workspaces and meeting rooms in your office. Utilizing Spaceti sensors, we track occupants’ motion and activity, translating this data into a color-coded visual representation of space usage. This feature not only enhances your understanding of space utilization but also supports strategic decision-making for better workplace experience.

In this article, we’ll explore the benefits of Occupancy Heatmap, how it works, and why it’s a smart choice for companies going through a workplace transformation.

How Does Occupancy Heatmap Work?

The Occupancy Heatmap feature in the Spaceti ecosystem is a visual tool to represent and analyze the utilization of spaces within a facility over varying time periods.

Heatmap Visualization:

Visualize space occupancy like never before. Choose a time period, and watch as the occupancy “flows” throughout the day, providing you with a dynamic understanding of how your spaces are used. The Occupancy Heatmap presents the data in a color-coded format, which is easy to understand at a glance. Typically, warmer colors (e.g., red) indicate higher occupancy or utilization levels, while cooler colors (e.g., blue) indicate lower occupancy or utilization levels.

Timeline Control:

The heatmap allows for temporal analysis, meaning you can view the occupancy data over different time spans such as hourly, daily, weekly, or even monthly and yearly. Play, pause, stop, and navigate through sequences to understand how occupancy patterns evolve.

Flexible Floorplan Views:

Switch between different floorplans effortlessly, allowing you to analyze space occupancy across various areas within your building.

How It Benefits You:

  • Make Informed Decisions: Understand how your spaces are used to optimize layouts, enhance user experiences, and reduce operational costs.
  • Streamline Resource Allocation: Ensure that your spaces are allocated efficiently, minimizing wasted resources and maximizing productivity.
  • Improve Planning: Plan meetings, cleaning schedules, and maintenance activities with a clear picture of space occupancy patterns.

How can the Occupancy Heatmap foster productivity and collaboration? Here are some examples:

  • Identifying High-Traffic Areas: The heatmap can show where people congregate most during the day. For example, if a certain meeting room is always busy, more similar spaces could be created to meet the demand.
  • Creating Collaboration Zones: If the heatmap indicates that a particular open area is frequently used for impromptu meetings, this area could be formally designated as a collaboration zone, equipped with comfortable seating and whiteboards.
  • Allocating Quiet Spaces: Conversely, if certain areas are less occupied and quieter, they could be designated as quiet zones for focused work.
  • Managing Flex-Desking Efficiently: In a flex-desk environment, a heatmap can show which desks are used most and at what times, helping to manage desk allocation better.

These examples provide more tangible scenarios where an Occupancy Heatmap tool could be leveraged to improve both productivity and collaboration within an organization by making informed decisions regarding space utilization and allocation.
