The Future Workspace of L’Oréal Deutschland GmbH

Dec. 10, 2019

We had the opportunity to speak with Martin Grønberg Myrold, Project Manager – Campus Management at L’Oréal Deutschland GmbH, who walked us through the process of creating the workplace of the future at the company’s German HQ “J1” in Düsseldorf. What was their main focus?

“To ensure that our employees can work effectively and find a fitting workplace for every activity, and at the same time utilise our resources optimally. We need a flexible workplace concept that enables a variety of workspaces and which allows for organisational elasticity, Martin explains.

The team decided to launch a project to determine the best workplace concept. What was taken in consideration? “In order to be able to make future spaceplanning decisions, we first needed data on the current usage of our existing space and an understanding of how our employees are working and want to work in the future.”

When surveying different solutions for the occupancy analysis, L’Oréal realised that the standard manual counting of people in buildings did not meet the level of efficiency and granularity that was needed for such an important project.

Technological Solution by Spaceti

L’Oréal chose a technological approach with sensors to provide them with the occupancy data. Spaceti stood out thanks to the ease of deployment of its wireless solution, which did not require any complicated IT infrastructure. Moreover, Spaceti’s capability to add further solutions in the future made it the most attractive partner for the campus.

“Using Spaceti’s technology, we have been able to identify the exact occupancy data for every specific team. This information, complemented by direct feedback from our employees through surveys and workgroups, has been essential to determining the framework of our future activity-based working concept,” Martin describes the reasons for opting for Spaceti.

To conclude, let’s take a look at results. Thanks to increased efficiencyL’Oréal Deutschland GmbH is able to offer our employees an improved workspace adopted to their individual and collective needs and ways of working, as well as flexibly and comfortably adjust to organisational changes when needed,” he summed up.

“This increase in flexibility from creating a data-driven workplace concept has led to a space efficiency increase of 15% and a ROI of several hundreds of percent, Martin Grønberg Myrold summarises the main results.
