Joining the NYC PropTech Community

Oct. 3, 2018

American landlords and corporate tenants understand the need for an integrated digital building solution, Spaceti CBO Aakash Ravi said in a short interview about his presentation at InnovateCRE and the company’s engagement with the New York City proptech community.

What is InnovateCRE?

InnovateCRE is, on the surface, an event that brings together startups from the property technology (PropTech) field as well as individuals from established corporate Digital Business and Innovation divisions. At its core, however, it is a deeper movement and community in New York City which recognizes that the disruptive trends that have taken over other industries are here to stay also in the real estate industry, and strives to drive this movement forward through sometimes stubborn real estate organisations.

Why did we participate?

We participated to engage with the local NYC PropTech community and share some of the learnings that we’ve experienced from our extensive work in Europe. Having just relocated to NYC to set up our international business in the Americas, I wanted to get feedback on Spaceti’s offering in a market that is completely different from what we’re used to.

What was the reaction to Spaceti’s offering?

I was very pleasantly surprised at the reaction from my peers. It seems that Spaceti’s technology that combines various fragmented aspects of the current smart building industry is well-received also in the American market, where landlords and corporate tenants acknowledge the need for an integrated digital building solution. The event also gave me a platform to meet many other interesting companies and individuals that work in this space, and paved the way for future collaborations and partnerships.

What is your take-away from the event?

The real estate industry world-wide is changing and embracing technology: even the largest and most corporate real estate organisations came to speak with me after my presentation about their initiatives in the space of digital buildings, and how we can possibly work together. I remember 3 years ago, when I was starting Spaceti with my co-founders, people used to laugh in our face at our immature technology and business model. It’s amazing to see how much not only we but also the industry has progressed since then.
