Daniyar Tanatov: Negotiating both on the inside and the outside

Nov. 1, 2018

Allow us to introduce the member of the Spaceti team: Originally from Kazakhstan, Daniyar Tanatov has joined the sales team as a key account manager for the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland). Get to know Daniyar a little better in this interview.

What is your role at Spaceti?

I’m a key account manager and I mostly take care of German-speaking customers, but I also have a few accounts in the Czech Republic. In a startup, everyone does a bit more. I also speak at conferences and attend networking events to represent Spaceti.

What is the most important aspect of key account management?

It’s very important to listen and understand your customer. On the outside, you have to be an ambassador for the company, but internally you need to be the customer’s ambassador. You negotiate both on the inside and the outside.

Why did you choose the DACH region and how did you learn German so well?

I started with German in my high school back in Kazakhstan when I knew I had to speak two foreign languages to study my major. As a second language, I decided for German. I wanted to learn Spanish, but it was difficult to find a Spanish teacher in my hometown while there were many German teachers.

At the university, I tried to distinguish myself and decided to learn German on a professional level to help my career. The DACH region is familiar to me because I speak German and I have relatives in Austria. It’s a big, dynamic area and the culture and mentality are close to my own. I like things that are well-planned out and when things work the way they should. I’m a rather straight-forward and punctual person (laughs).

What have you learned about the real estate industry in the DACH region?

I recently discovered the German real estate market has been growing in the seven largest cities and around 50% of investments went toward commercial buildings. This is actually great news for us since we are active in that part of the market.

How do you spend your free time?

I dedicate all my time to deepening my business knowledge and to spending time with friends. If I had more time, I would read more books, preferably fiction. I enjoy swimming, I have a gym membership, and I’m learning to cook. And when I have more time, I’ll play chess and draw more.
